Chassis number query

Hi everyone,

I am about to join the VW clan and have found and agreed a price on a mars red Mk1 GTi Campaign however I have read all of the guides here but my chassis number has an additional letter and I am trying to establish if I should worry about this or not ?

it reads WVWZZZ17ZEW053281 - is the Z supposed to be before the EW?

any help greatfully appreciated and should get some photos up here soon,

New to the scene and started with a VW Mk1 GTI Alpine White Campaign with P slot alloys and she sits in the garage trying to tame the fake snake (AC Cobra 5.7 Litre Monster!)

'Z' is just a spacer, has no significance.

The Z is supposed to be there, mine has a Z before the DW. I'm also sure that the chassis number should be 17 digits long.
