Unplugged wiper motor now i cant get it running again

Its a bosch 058 980910 wiper motor with 5 wires

The bentley or haynes.

I can get it to run but within seconds it burns out the fuse

That's a real boge of wiring, are you sure nothing is touching and that's what's blowing the fuse?

Why did they not get the correct plug to go into the socket as the wiring is used in Mk2, Mk3 and some Mk4 Golfs and loads of other VAG cars which there is loads in scrap yards then it would just plug straight into the original socket which they have butchered to solder on the wires…..

I'll try and have a look at which wire goes where but it won't be for a few days.  

Just found an old post, looking at the picture of my wiper motor 1 is the earth and 5 is the live, 2,3 and 4 is the 3 different speeds.
1, being on the left and 5 on the right of your original picture..

looks like a mk2/3 golf motor and rather than just getting a plug off donor car, they've done a nasty bodge on it

personally I'd just get another motor along with donor plug and splice that to the mk1 loom (uses 2.8mm latched spades which are widely available)

the actual motor looks quite new, you could keep it for spares to rebuild the mk2/3 motor in 30 or so years
