Toad Alarm

Post

I'm ashamed to say with other commitments my MK1 GTI tiptop has been laid up for nearly two years, following a failed MOT (only minor items and should have had it done then). I've had the car outside hooked up to a solar charger, worked well for a while.  Anyway the battery is now knackered, I'm going to replace it.  The car has a toad alarm fitted which is a bit of a pain in the ar$e.  I'd like to disconnect it when I replace the battery. Question - does anyone know if I simply don't connect the alarm tails to the battery or is there further work required to isolate the toad alarm system? Any advise greatly appreciated.

if it was me i would find the control brain behind the dash, chase and remove all the wiring. prepare yourself for a large amount of wire bodgery repair though, with all the many looms I have looked at never have I see a nice alarm or immobiliser install

Thanks, thought that might be the case!  Might carry on using it.  Just need to work out how to reset the alarm after disconnecting.

toad alarm?  Is that a brand name or is it to prevent toad and frog infestation?

I have seen a lot of Iffy alarm installs,  cut and twisted wire pairs with 200 feet of electrical tape to hold it.

Don't get me started on "Knackered, hacked, chopped" installs of Radios and alarms over the years…  It can scare me and I have been doing wiring forever.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Argh, you're all scaring me now.  I think Toad Alarms were big the 80's.  I also need to tackle the aftermarket stereo. :'(
Looks like I'll be stripping the wiring out…
