Tin top roof mounted aerial replacement

How can I remove and replace the aerial?

Hi all,

The aerial has snapped off my tin top golf so I need to remove and replace it. It's a bee sting type aerial which is mounted on the roof.

I presume I have to remove part of the headlining to access the bolt to remove the aerial so I was wondering if anyone could offer me some advice on the best way to do this?

I had a bee stinger on my fender, and the ariel part just unscrewed from the base part.

You might want to look at it as you may not need to replace the whole thing just the screwed in part.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Hi, thanks for the reply but its the bottom part of the aerial that the main part screws in to that has broken so I need to replace the whole unit.
I'm hoping to get advice on how to remove the headlining so I can unscrew the bottom part of the aerial and replace it.

Carefully!

Lift the tailgate and remove the rubber seal from the boot aperture.

Very, very carefully peel back the lining from where it folds over the lip that the boot seal goes onto.

Some heat from a hair dryer might help. As may a very sharp knife or razor blade.

If the roof linier is original it will be brittle so go very carefully and gently as it's easy to rip.

Hopefully you'll have enough access to get to the aerial. If not you're going have to tackle the C pillar covers too.

Same thing really carefully peel then away starting with the boot seal and work your way across the bottom.

You'll then need some good glue to stick it all back together. Either spray glue or contact adehsive can be used.

I suspected that would be the way to go about it.

It's only the two small self tapping screws that I need to remove so I can replace the plastic and screw it back in again but I'd rather do it properly.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll attempt it when the weathers a bit warmer.
