throttle valve idle adjusting screw

base setting from a rebuild

With a GTi K-Jetronic system and an 8V DX engine, (1987 - 1992) can anyone give me a base setting for how many turns the idle screw should be off its seat? Likewise if with a larger body throttle body (Mk2 GTi 1.8 8V) does this change?

A couple of things.
1. use a new o-ring.
2. Wrap the Idle By-pass Screw with 2 wraps of Teflon Tape, the threads only, as when the o-ring goes, it will still be unable to pass air and screw with your idle.

I usually bottom the screw out then 1 1/2 full turns out as a start.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Good advice thanks. A new o-ring fitted to the screw, surprised how loosely it fits on the screw (6mm dia) with the o-ring having a CSA at 1.45mm. Its not OEM as I can't find one of those but a little grease on the o-ring and PTFE on the thread it's back in and set 1 1/2 turns open off seat.

Just need the weather to improve a little to see if the throttle screw setting came good.
