Throttle cable type

Hi
Can anyone tell me what throttle cable I need, i have an 81 golf 1.1 thats had a 1.3 mk2 engine fitted with a 1b pierburg carb.
My problem is the 1.3 short cable has a long metal bar on the pedal end that stops the pedal coming up.
The original 1.1 etc… cable fits perfectly to pedal and carb but it's way to long, as you can see in the picture.



Is this how the cable is suppose to fit or do I need another type of cable altogether.
