Starting confusion

Post

So, I was getting my 1.6eg engined golf back on the road after a lengthy time and everything was going well. Cam belt, service coolant flush etc everything was working and running, then it decided to stop! I realised I couldn’t hear the fuel pump anymore so I checked the fuse box and one wire was a bit melted. (No 8 on the white A plug of a ceramic fuse box) I checked the wire and it was earthed and when I added a live to that wire the pump fired up and I could run the engine again. I figured something had melted in the fuse box as the relay seemed ok so I found a new nos one and fitted it along with a new genuine relay and new bosh fuel pump (just in case) but I still have the same problem :'( does anyone have any ideas or know which pin feeds the fuel pump relay maybe as a jumper feed as the relay fuse is live?

any help appreciated

cheers
ray

Not all Fuel Pump relays are good from the start.
www.cabby-info.com has the part number that you want to avoid and which ones to get.

Try placing your old one in there and see what you got.

Worst case is to take your old box apart and look at the bus bars for corrosion, you can clean that with Vinegar for about 2 days rinse well Dust with Baking soda, then rinse again when clean.  Let air dry over night  then CRC-556 or a WireDry spray.

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Well that's really upsetting  :'( after trying to troubleshoot all I could, spending around £500 on a fuse box and relays and being let down by an auto electrician three times I decided to have another look myself today. I noticed one of the pins on the white plug was slightly more open than the others so I closed it up a little and now it works! This could all have been solved a couple of months ago and saved me loads of money  :$ I feel extremely stupid!

Not, Stupid, all of us now and then have less than stellar moments, so some of us are a lot less poorer for it.

Run the fuel pump load from a seperate relay to stop the pin from getting hot.
It was actually a recall on some early GTI's I believe.
