I need to sort out the base of my internally adjustable wing mirrors. All the paint has pretty much gone and it looks terrible. I was hoping to separate the mirror housing from the base but discussions in another thread suggest that just isn't possible (if you know otherwise, chip in!).
So how have others gone about painting the base given that the mirror housing covers the top of it?
Secondly - waist trims - anyone refurbished these? Mine are structurally very sound and I don't really want to fork out ~£100 for new (non genuine) ones. Given they need to flex slightly what paint could I use, and could I get a textured finish (like the originals). Again, I'm sure someone must have done this before, so be great to know what was done.
Thanks all!

I think I did a thread on Plastic-dip isn't just for rims.
The Base of the Mirror has a spring and a pin, that is pressed to the mirror body and is a BEATCH to get apart, let alone trying to get it all compressed and then the keeper repressed again. I thought of one time just drilling a small hole at the top of the Current pressed washer as a mark. Cut the hold fast off, then I could go back by compressing the spring in a Vise and use wire to hold it collapsed… Insert it all together, place a washer on the top, then a small bolt through the hole to keep it all in place.
It could be doable.

I think I'll just see how well I can spray the base with the mirror attached. I have actually found a spare pair in another box, but again, I'm reluctant to completely trash something that isn't broken!
