Schrick 288 cam - should I or shouldn't I?

Post

Some time ago I bought a ported/polished cylinder head and a Schrick 288 cam.  I am coming to the point in my restoration where I am starting to think about the engine overhaul.  I am not intending on doing much (if anything) to the bottom end.  I just have a concern that the 288 might be a bit lairy and lumpy for me compared to standard?  Anybody got a 288 cam fitted or can anyone offer any insights into whether this is a good idea or should I stick to standard set-up?  The car will not be driven much so I don't mind a bit of a lumpy idle, but I also don't want to have to rev the nuts off the car to get it going (I love the torque of the 1.8 as it is).Cheers for any input.

Hi

I have experience of a 276 cam and for the rosad i would want to go any larger. 288 is a big cam and only used for race engines. the standard management will find it hard to deal with the duration.
