Sorry more advice please: The previous owner resprayed the car but also chose to spray the standard plastic bumpers at the same time. It all looks a bit too samey so wanted to take the bumpers back to original spec.
Can I rub them down/strip them or will it basically destroy them?
Or is it too much effort and would be better just buying replacement plastic bumpers?

You didn't mention the year of your ride, and that determines what you should do.

If the original bumpers have been sprayed and are nice an smooth then it would imply they have had some filler. I think you will really struggle to remove that. What you could do is buy some new bumpers, but look to keep the original metal work. I bought a set of bumpers from Euro Car Parts - they fit pretty well with some fettling. It was pretty easy to remove them from the metal work (part of the fettling) so you may well be able to mount the new plastics to the original metal work. Certainly something I would have looked at doing had I had the originals!
Mnor point, but I think your wiper arms need swapping over. The one with the spolier on it should be on the drivers side (unless you have a passenger that insists on being able to see out better than you!).
