Remove VW badge

Hi,
Just wondered if anyone had any tips on removing the VW badge from the front grill without snapping either?
Previous owner has painted it Matt black and it's flaking off so I would like to return it to chrome original look. Any tips on that would be greatly received as well.

Early badges have 2 clips that go over the corresponding pins.
These are removed from behind
