Door lock dowels

Having recently read the great thread on re-keying locks, I was wondering if anybody knew where to get hold of the dowels as all of my locks need different keys. Any advice on where to find them would be greatly appreciated!

Well the easiest is to buy a set of pins or take them to a locksmith.

When I go to the wrecking yards and find Golfs or Cabriolets/Rabbit/jettas, I remove a handle or 3 and remove the pins…. I had one car that had two keys, so I wanted a one key car.

If you take the locks out including the Glovebox to a locksmith be sure you have them all keyed to the ignition switch

The pins or Wafers aren't that expensive.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks very much for this. I thought that the dowels/pins/wafers were VW specific? If not, that's great!

Yes, it was that guide that got me to thinking about re-keying. I'm trying to work out if it's still possible to get hold of the dowels.

buy some 2nd hand handles complete with locks and you should find you have enough wafers to re-key your locks

Main dealers used to sell em.

But yes get some off someone who’s breaking a car.
