Questions about spot lights

Post

Hi there thanks for reading.

I have a convertible mk1 golf rivage 1993 (June)

1. Where would you buy spotlights from? I'm looking for original looking lamps (They have the longer 30mm brackets). Part number 155 941 783 and 155 941 784

2. VW Heritage have some but I'm afraid they will look too aftermarket. Has anyone got any experience of them?

2. What does the letter at the end of the part number i.e. C/D mean? I think mine is a C but the label is worn here.

Thanks,
Ali

Have you tried cleaning them?
2 ways to clean the lens,
1, heat them up and remove the glass, clean out and then re-seal the glass.
2, clean through the hole in the back with a cloth on a stick.

I think there's a how to on this site….

This will only work if you are replacing them because they have gone cloudy…

Take the whole grille out lamps and all.

2 Phillips screws in the middle and 2 on each corner under the cap on the grille corner.

Turn the Grille so the light faces are pointed down.
Remove the Rubber boots, and disconnect the wires and remove the Bulb.

Boil some water or get really really hot water.

Crush 2-3 denture tablets into each lens, add hot water to over flow.  Let sit over night, rinse well, add more hot water and let run out. Gently use a hair drier to heat the lens and body to evaporate the remaining water out.

.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Hi there guys thanks for your responses. That's some great infomation.

The lens is actually cracked so I'm tempted to remove the lens. I bought the wrong spot light (shorter bracket) however the part number on the lens is the same so may use this.

Thanks again,
Ali

Sounds like you bought the lights from a early Golf with the thinner slats on the grill.

Just check the pattern on the glass is the same as VW did fit fog lights as well as high beam lights in the grill.

Thank you. Pattern is the same. Will either change lenses or buy another spot light...they are expensive!
