Question on wiring for front bumper lights of 82 MK1 Golf Cabrio (VW Rabbit in US)

Post

Hi,

My brother in the US is working on an 82 MK1 VW Golf Cabrio (Rabbit Convertible), and had a question on wiring for the front bumper parking/turn indicator light.

He has a wire with three parts:
* A brown wire, which has a metal clip at the end and we believe goes to ground.
* A grey wire
* A black wire (we believe–it is a bit faded).

We're guessing the grey and black wires go to the turn indicator and the other the parking light.  Does anyone know which might go where?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Have your Brother buy a Haynes book 96016 VW Rabbit, Golf, Jetta, Scirocco, Pick-up 1975-1992 All Gasoline Models.

Section 12-75
Wiring Diagrams 12 76-80 wiring diagrams for 1981 Cabriolet Convertible, and Jetta (except California).

The Major Differences are that the Rabbits from 79-84 were built in the US, whereas the Cabriolets, Golf/Rabbit Convertibles were all made in Germany, so you have to be aware of the different wiring diagrams from a USA built Rabbit and a Golf or Convertible German Built model.

Repair Manuals

The Front turns/parking lights are Brown to Ground
T4d left front ground near the left front headlight.
T3d right front ground near the right front headlight

Left front turn blue to T4a same as the ground near the left front head light. T4a is a black/white wire.
Right front turn blue to a Black/green wire at T4

Parking light is  12-79
Left front  grey to T1d Grey/Black near left front headlight. The left front side marker ties to the same point.

Right front grey to Black/gray 1f same as the side marker on the right near the right front headlight.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

This is hugely helpful, Briano!  I will also tell him to get that Haynes manual.  I think he was looking at the Bentley manual which he didn't' find especially helpful here.

THANK YOU!
