Power going to wiper connector and wiper problem!

Post

Hi All

i a  just trying to rule things out with current problems with my wipers, they aren’t working at all.

just trying to rule problems out.

- I took out the linkage mechanism and greased it. Seems to be moving freely.

- Washers are working. Are these anyway linked?

- If I check If there power going to the connector block with a multimeter does this mean all is ok with relay and power? What voltage should I be looking for?

does this mean I would be down to the motor?

Thanks

Well the wiper motor is isolated from the Chassis just because there is power to the motor to frame, If that is how you tested it doesn't mean there is a ground.

You have to test from the power on the plug to the motor case or brown wire in to it.

Second I would reseat the fuses, and relay.

Then there are the 4 switched sides, (3 for wipers, and one for the internal parking switch) and a Ground.

Hi- doesn't use the wiper relay, but low and delay does.

The Parking switch or wiper return uses power on all 3 modes, delay, hi or low.

So having power on one wire doesn't mean much as if you are using the return (parking) wires, they only get connection when the switch internal to the motor gets tripped.

These are out of a 90ish cabriolet, but they are about the same So test all the wires as compared to the Brown wire.  Then we can see if the relay is supplying power.

While Motors can go bad, the switches, relay and wires are more prone to failure.  I suspect now that with the age of these critters as the 93 is 26 years young, motors are about as suspect as the rest…It is more common.

You can also wire power direct from the battery to test the motor, that is Jam a wire from the battery to one of the power wires the gray or green wire as they are low and high speed, and see if the motor cycles, if it doesn't then add a ground to the case..then test again.

If you can't power the motor with direct power from the battery then your motor is suspect, if the motor has a good ground to it.

If the Motor cycles with direct power applied, then you are looking at the switch, relay, or wires.

Thanks for that.  So I got a mk2 converted from CrazyQuiff and I fitted it and the motor as power going to it as it rotates.

I put this on the car and the spindles are rotating but the wipers aren't rotating.  Could it be as simple as the nuts abd bolts aren't tight enough or the motor is on the wrong way?  Any other ideas?

Thanks
Denis

The wipers are on a splined shaft that needs to be cleaned so the splines are clean and able to bite.

Then you have to tighten the 10mm nut (Curved Spring washer under it).  Then you tighten the nuts to 80 in/lbs

Yep they are pretty snug, I usually tighten them until I can't move the arm on the shaft.

I clean the shafts with a Brass wire brush, and I usually mask off the paint on the valance so I can't scratch the paint.
