8V Refusing to start

Hi,

Hope you guys can help. After having my head rebuilt with the help of a friend I had a new cam-belt fitted. The car is now refusing to start.:banghead:I have taken some photos and believe we have the camshaft and the bottom crank pulley aligned. However the distributor rotor arm is pointing in the wrong direction. Also I believe the flywheel appears not to be on the diamond marker.

I have taken out spark plug 1 and can feel that piston 1 is up using a screwdriver.

Is this a simple case of removing the distributor and turning it round to face the middle notch facing towards the engine at 12.00 to 1.30? Or has the cambelt not been fitted correctly?

The car's been off the road since June and I am keen to drive her again.

Any help would be much appreciated ;) IMG_20181123_102900.jpg

Well, it is out of time badly.

Your Cam Pulley appears to be on Backwards, as the back of it has a dimple not a hash.

Your Crank flywheel usually has a (0) indicator as to the 0 tdc or a diamond grove that is 6DTDC.
So that is wrong.

You Diz Rotor Should be in the middle of the Hash that is stamped in the side of the diz yours is 180 out.

I would look at the front side of your Cam Pulley and verify that the dimple is there then remove it and turn it around .

The Crank and Diz may be 180 out, as you will rotate the crank so that the Diz is in the Middle of the Hash.

Do not USE PULLEY MARKS AS THEY COULD BE WAY OFF.

www,cabby-info.com has pictures of all this at.

If your flywheel has the Diamond groove, then you just set it there under the finger, and move the DIZ to align.

Normally the Dimple on the back of the CAM is even with the Valve Cover TIN, not the re-bar.

Yes it won't start set up like that… you need to remove the plastic cover and have a look at the marks on the intermediate shaft as that controls the rotor arm.

What year is your car as the timing marks moved about depending on the year of car.

Loads of guides and pictures if you search the web as that's and easier way to find links to this website as this has been discussed lots…

Also your front top strut mounts have come to end of there life as that’s a big gap between the metal top and rubber housing…
