Died whilst driving and hot and wont start..

20170409_160822.jpg Please help!

Currently sat at the ide of the road as my Mk1 Cabby 1985 1.6 has just died! Its standard with weber carb.

Only issue ive had previously is that it almost misfires or jutters at low revs very occasionally but other than that never had as issue!

I was out driving and had been for a good couple of hours, all of a sudden it juttered but instead of returning to normal this time i was pushing the accelerator in but it just spluttered and didnt rev at all and slowly died!

Now it will not restart and the oil light is flashing when i turn the ignition, it turns over but wont start, ive checked the oil levels but its hot so not accurate, all other liquid levels look fine but im not sure whatd wrong. Dont knoe a huge amount about technical side of the car so any help would be great if possible.

Thanks iv advance..

Remove the fuel line going to the plastic fuel filter (at the fuel filter) and blow down the fuel line towards the fuel tank, you should hear bubbles from the tank. Refit fuel hose to fuel filter and try to start car.

If above does not work a few questions to help with your problem.

Can you seem petrol when trying to start the car?
Can you see any wires which may of fell off?
If you have to tools remove a spark plug and see if you have a spark at the plugs.

Think i have found the problem!!

On further inspection after checking sparks and if it was getting fuel and Removing the air filter assembly and blowing out the carb jets.

I found the carb itself was quite wobbly and then closer inspection i found that the flange gasket fron carb to manifold was split all around the joins.

Definitely explains why it bogs down and misses sometimes i think. I attempted to press down on the carb to seal the split and then it almost started but wasnt enough.

Will be replacing the gasket and hope this cures the problem.

Those unmetered air gaps…. pesky little critters.
Probably will.

It isn't that you couldn't press hard enough it is because it didn't effectively seal.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.
