Pierburg thingy

Please forgive my utter ignorance (I’m a body guy) but this little thingy on my pierburg is never going to do anything, there’s a finger size gap between it, and the cam bit on the 3-4 unit thing which obviously activates it…. will it matter?

It's the accelerator pump. Squirts petrol into the carburettor when throttle is fully depressed. That black cam should push on the lever when the throttle is fully open.

I'm not sure what to do with it, I want the car to perform properly,…
I think I'll wait until the resto is finished and it's on the road, I'll give it a good shakedown and see what it's like. I can feel a carb rebuild coming on…..
