Mystery wires

Post

Small cable run taped up.

Thanks to Dano and nicci21paul for the kind welcome.

I have a mk1 cabbie 1.8 and have circled some wires that have been taped up and I could do with knowing what the are, or were for. They run across the bulkhead on top of the brake lever, but are held in by retaining clips.
The car now has a Weber fitted from, I assume a pierburg carb. Would the cables originally have been for the old carburettor?
This is one of a number of taped up looms so this may become a recurring theme from me for a bit.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. TTSTU SAM_2353 (2).jpg

Yea, the Pierburg has a few circuits to it which become redundant when a Weber is fitted.

When I converted my cabbie 1.8 to Weber, there was 1 wire to a small block thingy on the front of the carb, and there is an inlet manifold heater thing (referred to here as a 'hedgehog' ) which stays connected with one wire.

So I think I ended up with three connections which became un-used.

Hope this helps

It might be worth fitting a bulk head strengthening plate, VWs poor design means the clutch cable can pull through the bulkhead leaving a massive hole. (Search the problem and you can see what happens…)

You can just stick the plate to the bulkhead once it's cleaned up as the plate has a sticky back and the cable holds it in place.

Thanks for that information  :) jazzydog. Nothing worse than not knowing if you should have something connected or not. I will probably go ahead with the extra bulkhead plate mark1gls, I have an autobox but better safe….

If you have an automatic car there's no need for the plate as you don't have a clutch cable.
