Mk1 tonneau cover stud issues

Post

I have a tonneau cover that needs new stud fixings. Ive purchased the standard 17mm buttons but the length of the button is just not long enough to go through the material and get a firm hold off the popper. Every time I take the tonneau off it leaves the stud attached to the car. I've tried with several new studs and have run out of the ones I purchased

Can anybody tell me where you can buy a heavy duty set from.

Thanks.

When this happens to me I go to the Hardware store and get the IIRC General Hardware Kit, it comes with button caps male and Female receivers as well as the die, and punch to re-rivet, the boot cover.

The Issue is that if you don't have the Die (the cap is placed on it on a firm Surface Cap cover with stud. then the top, and female receiver

The Punch is similar to a Roll-Pin tool, that is it has a centering pin.  This pin helps with rolling the rivet from the inside to the outside to hold it.  The Die keeps the cap from denting and looking smart.  If you don't have the die, then the Cap can distort and when you are smacking down the rivet, the rivet actually pushes the Cap in and shortens the length of it.

They make a set of snap pliers that do the same thing.  But alas for a one time job, they are expensive.

You could try taking your boot cover to a Auto Upholstery shop, to have the snap replaced.
