New to all this!
Hi all, just joined yesterday! My dad and I have purchased a 91 Golf (Clipper) or though the log book says GTI so that's caused a little confusion! It's pretty much all there but needs all putting back together. I am after some advise with the soft top, it's ripped in a few places, the roof lining itself is sound and the electric motor is there but the outer of the roof is quite badly damaged. Would it be better to try and get some to fix/are these easy enough to fix myself/ can I buy a complete roof? Any thoughts greatly appreciated

Does it have the GTI or carb engine?
Both the GTI and carb engined cars have the 'clipper' body kit but its usually the carb'd engined cars that are called Clippers.
May have depended on who filled in the paperwork back in the day when it was registered?
I'd get a proper fuel filler cap, neither engine, esp the GTI likes water and muck in the petrol

The trouble with doing nothing is that you never know when you are finished.

Thank you, that's great advice. Yeah I've been looking for fuel caps today but need to actually figure out the car model first I think lol

Don't get a crappy fuel cap! They can be a right pain to undo. I got a Hella one and reasonably happy with it - but sometimes it still gives me jip getting it off and on.
I've had a GTi and a Clipper cab - each had the correct designation on the V5 - as others have said, what engine is in it?
Welcome to the madhouse btw
