Hi everyone,
I've finally just got my cabby out of the garage I've had a DX engine fitted to my 2H cylinder head as my engine was knackered, I've just got it back and there is a crunching noise when I release the clutch ones it's in gear, also my engine in sort of rocking which I don't think is normal any ideas what to do apart from take it back to the garage 😂🙈

I wouldn't mess around with it.
Go straight back and don't except no for an answer because in either case it simply isn't right! 👍🏼

Did they forget to fix or tighten up the front or rear engine mount?
The engine should not move that much …

No idea what that noise is???.

No idea but Iā€™ll be sending it back tomorrow, the noise is coming from the gearbox it perfectly fine before it 1st went in, the way itā€™s rocking itā€™s like itā€™s loose from the rear

Like Mark said, engine mounts not tightened and or now büggered.
1st gear issue could just be badly adjusted gear linkage or not at all.

The crunching sounds like the clutch plate not engaging properly because of the gear linkage of selector badly adjusted.
I had that several times on a Mk1 Escort.

Rear engine mount wasnā€™t even connected, thatā€™s now fixed there is no rocking in the engine, the garage are thinking itā€™s the bearings thatā€™s making that noise in the gearbox could it be them or are they wrong?

So they forgot to fit the rear engine mount……

Was the gearbox fitted to your old engine and did it make the noise before the garage touched the car?

If they forgot the engine mount did they forget to fit/tighten up bolts in or around the gearbox/clutch???

It's really hard to say what and where the noise is come from just watching a video clip, you could use a stethoscope to find the noise or I use a long screw driver and place 1 end in your ear and the other end in and around the gearbox and touch the metal surface and you can listen to the bearing etc and try to locate the noise.
Be very carful doing this near anything that is spinning as you don't want to slip and get the screw driver caught in anything spinning around….

Yes the gearbox was fitted to the original engine it was all working fine, the car was working fine only problem was it dropped oil pressure and it made a bad tappet noise, I replaced all tappets, changed water pump to find the engine needed a refurb so I thought the bottom end of DX should do it has clearly worked because my car is running but just that noise coming from the gearbox is annoying, itā€™s booked in for a week on Monday there going to fix it for nothing so itā€™s all good
