MK1 cabriolet roof

Right, I have a quartet edition GTI cabriolet and I bought a roof from a fela because the material on mine was and I was going to do a straight swap, but I put the new one on and it doesn't have half the things mine did and mine was all staineless steel parts and had the gas struts, so I cannot use it on my car. So does anyone know the cost of getting new material put onto my old roof and also whilst i'm at it does anyone need a hood for a non gti cabriolet

Are you after a mohair roof or vinyl?

Is you roof manual or electric, the roof you may of bought could of been from a car with a electric power roof?

The good thing about these cars are the roofs are not that expensive compared to a lot of cars, a new vinyl roof in a box and fit your self is £145.

There's 3 different frames varying on year and not whether they are on a  GTi or not.

The hoods are the same.

Only differences being the headliners are not all the same size.

Prices vary depending on what you want doing compared with need doing.

Rear window frames tend to rust out so there's another cost factor. Also if the headliner is torn or uncleanable then that needs to be replaced first of all, the same with the interliner and pad.
You cannot replace them without removing the roof as all the fixings are underneath. Don't let anyone else tell you different.

If you're supplying the correct new parts then labour to fit £175.-£200 depending on where you are in the country.
Supply and fit depending on quality of parts for the roof whether you want vinyl or mohair alone £475.00 upwards.
I met a lad at the AGM the other year and he paid £900.00 just for a roof alone.

Also most fitters wont want to take off an old hood to swap over onto another frame because of the risk of damaging it during removal. Old hoods deteriorate. If they agree then labour may be more as the removal would take more time. Plus they wouldn't guarantee it. like wise stripping old frames down for scavenging parts to make a good set up isn't cost effective.
