MFA playing up

I've recently pulled my 83' mk1 GTI out of hibernation and the MFA is playing up. As things stand the clock reads 12.00 constantly and it won't let me toggle through oil temp, outdoor temp etc.
Any pointers would be gratefully received.

It could just be an old car syndrome thing, especially if it’s sat a while.

You could try disconnecting and reconnecting the battery.

Had you done any work on the car since it last worked?

 I've done a few little jobs including changing the radiator, dash fan switch and a few other bits and bobs but nothing too serious. The battery did also sit completely flat for a couple of months during the darkest depths of winter. I'll try disconnecting the battery today to see it that wakes it up. Thanks, Dave

Pretty much as Andy said.
Do make sure your battery is good and charged but disconnect it for a few minutes and then try again.

In fact 30 seconds or so should work but just to be sure do it a bit longer!

I asked about what work you’ve done in case you’ve left an earth off somewhere. The one on the back right corner of the cam cover is a popular one to miss after changing the gasket

Quick update. As suggested in the helpful comments above, disconnecting, fully charging and reconnecting the battery fixed the issue - MFA now fully functioning once again. Many thanks for the help!
