Lower steering column spring

Hi all,

Trying to refit the UJ but it really doesn't want to go on, I've got a new spring and thrust washer between the top end and lower column bearing, its just the spring really making it a struggle.

Does anyone know the proper length the lower spring (481419343B) should be? I've found an older spring which measures 29mm. The new spring measures 44mm.
