looking for suggestions on what brakes to put in my mk1

any advice on better brakes

so I have a mk1 1.1 which I plan to put a 1.3 engine with dual carbs into, nothing special at all but I have the engine so why not, anyway the car is a project and I am also looking at replacing most of the parts, the brakes are a main focus, I noticed euro parts had a sale on and was gonna place an order but would any of you suggest what the best brake set up that I could buy is? is there an upgrade I can do? any help would be great!

A 1300 is only 60hp, 70? with fancy carbs and it weighs @700kg so the standard brakes in good condition working and setup correctly are more than enough.

Save you money on getting it running and driving OK, a standard Golf C will be rarer and more valuable that a messed about modifed car……

I appreciate the reply early-1800; I should have noted that I wanted to upgrade the brakes just out of precaution due to being nervous since a crash last year.

Standard GTI spec would be the best plan,
Parts are easily available and cheap.

May even be able to find someone who wants to upgrade their GTI spec to G60 spec that's will to sell 😜

9" servo and 22mm master cylinder are needed to get the best from the system

Hi 1985, thanks for the info, I had read an article about changing the servo, think this is what I would do as I want the brakes to be as good as I can get them on a budget, I will keep an eye out on the forum for someone selling them!

Only issue with uprating the servo is they come at a high price for what they are (scene tax),
You are very unlikely to get one for less than £100

yeah lots of stuff wont be cheap but im trying to do most of the work myself to cut costs and spend money on quality parts, love your cabby btw; which front lip spoiler is on yours cause I love how it sits, is it just the OEM GTI one?

 Get a pair of new discs and pads for the front and in my opinion the brakes will be okay.
Sorry these won't do, they will have the wheel cylionders with the larger bore.

yeah it seems cheap enough, will these take much adjustment to go on a mk1 1.1 tintop, would the servo need upgraded like 1985 was saying above?
