I don't have a clue to the Aftermarket pop-ups in the uk, but I must ask if there are Drains in the corners that may have gotten plugged..

Every sunroof that I have ever had (3) all oem though have had their Drains plugged.  I have found that if you use a "Brake-Kleen" product with a Straw, hold on to that straw in the nozzle or Tie it to the can, that if I inserted it a wee bit and sprayed, that the drains would clear and the brake-kleen product would drain out the bottom.

The Drains were either in the corners or the widest parts.

Aftermarket I don't know if there are drains but thought that I would throw it out there for you to ponder.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks Briano, I had a look , & can't see any drain holes, would I have to take down the head lining?

Pop ups don’t have drains. Depends where it’s leaking is it between the glass and the seal or between the sun roof and the roof.

If the latter then quite an easy fix. Take the trim off from the inside and lift the whole roof out. Clean the frame and the roof. Reseal with stickiflex (do NOT use mastic it will fail fast) and screw back in place. Use a little contact adhesive when refitting the roof lining to the inner trim.  About 3 or 4 hours work I would say.

If the seal where the glass sits then no idea where to get these. Guess if it is this piece then you will end up with a new slightly larger roof and some more cutting of the car.

Thanks for reply BackinBlack, I realised it didn't have drain holes just after iposted🙈,I think it's possibly leaking from both, but will try & take roof out & have a clean up, & use stickiflex(I'd never heard of it)
Thanks for your time & good advice

If the rubber seal is leaking rub in some vasoline into the rubber and it should help soften it up and help seal it.

You need to find out what make sun roof you have, there may be logo on the handle? You should then be able to find a new seal or info on fixing the leak.

In my old tin top Mk1 the sunroof glass was removed by pressing in a couple of clips in the handle.

Common for people to fit after market glass sun roofs as they were very popular in the 80s.

Mark, I think it's the "sponge" seal that could be leaking, or it's getting under the base plate(or both🙈)unfortunately no markings on it, I've rang a couple of sunroof companies, & they said because it's so old, the newer ones are much smaller, so I can't even buy one!

Can anyone point me in the right direction, I've looked & seems to be about 15 different products for sikaflex, witch is the one to go for? Thanks

Try searching Sikaflex 221. Usually comes in black, white, or grey cartridge.👍

Yep , looks similar to the s/r that was in mine.
Edit, my roof was leaking where the seal meets the glass.

Hi skipper1!

I realise this thread is a few months old now but did you ever sort the leaking out on your britax aftermarket type sunroof? just looking into sorting mine out on my 1600 gti that i'm restoring. Obviously due to age the frame itself may need resealing with sikaflex or similar due to body flex and the general pasing of time since it was original fitted by dealer or specialist at the time. On mine its most definitely the seal itself which has simply become tired/perished with age - its split and no longer sits up nor stays in position within the channel.

I've just come across this company through a contact of mine who's a car trimmer. You should find what you need here, they sell various types of seals depending on the particular size of your aperture. Job's a good one! gafa tape no longer needed! I don't know what's worse the oem sunroofs which rot inside out and hide all kinds of horrors or these, a matter what you can't properly enjoy a mk1 without a sunroof! having a solid roof when the sun is out is a crime.
