The backrest attaches to the seat with two pins with a circlip over. The pins are welded to the seat, so I can't knock them out. The metal also seems to thick to be bent over the pins. Does anyone know how to separate the two parts?

Well it is easy, Where you removed the cover and sav the Pivot point You pry that pivot point off of the seat bottom bracket that was clipped. Do one side, then do the other it is very easy. If you lay it on it's side it may pop back on to the pivot stud.

Ah, easy indeed. It had grown stuck so just needed a little persuasion. Thanks!
