How to mount a GTI Vs CL Front Lib/Spoiler?

Hi Guys..

I need to fit a GTI front underlib /Spoiler to my 4 door CL golf, but the clips is to short? The original CL spoiler is a bit slimmer in the mounting points and therefore the clips will go all the way through, but with the GTI lib they cannot do that because it is a bit thicker.

Anyone know what I'm talking about and how to fix it, I'm thinking about using 5mm bolts, but i don't know ???

I've always used bolts and washers.

But then I'm too cheap to buy the mounting kits!

Your not cheap Brian just good value

Just use bolts and washers is my advice I find it also a lot more secure.

Ok thanks guys, I will use bolts n' nuts. 

Side question: Is there suppose to be something between body and spoiler ? Rubber Or something like that ? Worried for paint damage… ? 

No, nothing between spoiler and body, just taken mine off after 35yrs to give room for engine to come out and no damage to paint underneath, picture below is just dirt which wiped off, and yes as already mentioned nuts, bolts and large washers to secure.

As all above nuts and washers but if using a cheaper aftermarket spoiler then spend time filing out some of the mounting points to bring the spoiler closer at the join.

Its not a 5min job, be prepared to spend a good hour on it otherwise you'll have the gap in the centre which looks terrible
