Post

Any images ?

Looked everywhere, my mk1 cabby is an 88 and has a terrible horn on a terrible bracket bolted to the radiator.  I have a Bosch twin horn in a box ready to go on… electrics I'm fine with … but can't find where it should go ?? Any help Or images appreciated

VW fitted the horn to a bumper bracket bolt in the engine bay underneath the battery, the horn was fitted to a bracket and the bracket bolted to the car.
That's where it is on my 1988 cabriolet.

Ill try and get a picture tomorrow for you.

The twin horn setup was suspect when new so the one you have is prob a bodge to fix non working originals.

Note from the factory the horns are +ve and earthed at the steering column/wheel

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Not so, the +12 is to the horns via the fusible link along with the black/yellow wire, and direct to the battery.

The ground is via a Relay in the fuse panel that is provided by the Major Earth traveling up to the stalk from the wire on the steering rack gear box to the frame of the Steering rack mount, then through the button on the Wheel, back down the shaft via a wire to the fuse panel, then to the horn relay to Pick the relay, that applies ground back out to the horns.

The horns are attached on a Cabriolet under the Battery on a bar mount that is bolted to the frame horn.

So the horn is +ve and earthed at the wheel then, via loads of extra gubbins that 99% of the rest of the world managed to do without

Thanks everyone.  Mark1gls I really really appreciate the picture was under the car today and have seen the bolt. Will treat myself to a bracket and will be another job completed. Hopefully one day post Covid  I can get you a pint or a burger to say thank you

You might need to make some sort straight bracket (12 in the diagram in above posts) to attach the twins horn..
