The removing of the rubber can be done in two ways.

Cut it and push the windscreen out.

Break the screen and pull out the rubber intact.

Rubbers are about £35 and windscreens about £100 for a new one.

There could well be a way to remove the seal and screen intact but if you have bubbling on the window frame then it suggests to me one of two things.
1, seal is old and corroded and has let in water, in which case it needs replacing.
2, the seal wasn't fitted correctly in which case it will be trapped and folded somewhere allowing water in. In which case I'd want to replace the seal.

If it were me I'd cut of the front of the seal with a stanley knife and carefully remove the scree and then replace with a new seal.

There are 3 types of seals. Ones for chrome trim, ones without chrome trim and the god awful hideous ones sold by Heritage.

Avoid the ones from heritage as they are horrible. I know. I bought one by mistake and keep meaning to getting around to removing it.

To reinstall the windscreen, use the string method. It helps to have 2 helpers to push on the outside of the glass, especially at the top corners to get it to seat properly.

As for the metal repair, a cut panel from a good shell would be the best bet.

Remove the screen and seal all together as one.

Use a medium size blunt flat bladed screwdriver from inside the car, to ease the edge of the rubber seal over the windscreen aperture flange. Take your time and be patient and You should be able to remove the screen and seal undamaged.

I usually start in either top corner, work halfway downwards, then start back in the corner and work toward the centre top, keep going across and around the opposite top corner and down. Once you've freed across the top and down both sides you can get out of the car and lift the screen out along with the rubber seal. Easy peasey. Just take your time and do little by little, at first to get the first couple of inches it's quite tricky, after that it will come easy. Do not lever against the glass, the screen is laminated type glass and will crack. Of course if you have another seal then just cut the old one out to be sure the glass doesn't get damaged.

I recently welded my scuttle panel, I bought a new copy panel which was really poor quality, I ended up cutting it up and using sections of it, and I learned that a 'body cut' from a scrap shell is the answer if you wanted to replace the whole thing.

Best stuff to use is 1/4 inch (6mm) sash cord, the string used in sash windows , get some from your diy store.

It's literally a 10 minute job if you know what you are doing. Easiest way is find someone who does and get them to pop round and do it for you, as if you don't know you can easily break the glass.

The flap of rubber seal that you eased over the aperture flange when removing the glass is pulled back over the flange by the string when refitting.

Kind of difficult to describe with words,,, with the seal on the glass, insert the string into the seal behind the flap of rubber using a medium size cross head screwdriver., run along inside pushing the string in to place. Start at a bottom corner and insert the string all the way around , overlapping to the opposite corner..

Lay the screen in the aperture, easier with a helper, position it nice and comfy snug, and from inside the vehicle pull the string towards the centre of the glass, as the string is pulled it will ease the flap of rubber over the flange slightly. When it looks like it may not pull the flap over the flange anymore you need to stop and from outside, very gently, use the palm of your hand to thump the glass gently, only where the string is already pulled, you will see the glass and the seal settle into place, then inside pull more string and repeat.

So get one bottom corner in, continue across the bottom until the other bottom corner is in, then alternately move up each side, then across the top, to centre alternating which end of the string you pull, the screen will literally plop into place. Finish from outside gently thumping with palm of hand all round the edges to settle into place.

Hope this makes sense
