Just a quick question everybody, my loom for my electric windows looks like it’s missing a few bits, does the loom from a Corrado fit the Mk1???

possibly, as there are the 2door and 4 door versions.

What specifically is missing?

Everything I know about the electric windows is located here

Some of the wires have been pulled out of the plugs, and I think a connector is missing I’ve not got much a clue about it to be honest so would rather just buy a new loom

I think you have an early type Cabrio from the picture in your profile.

But I wouldn't imagine that the wiring loom from a Corrado will work. I'd say chalk and cheese or would take a lot of butchering.

However the one guy who might know what may fit is rubjonny
Can you tell us what Mk1 you have, what spec is it?

We've zero information to go on at the moment, don't even know how many doors etc…

Hi it’s a 1992 model I fitted small bumpers to it and earlier grill as I prefer the early type look, it’s a LHD fashionline mate I purchased electric window kit from a sportline and the loom was shattered so I’ve just purchased a corrado one, the guy I bought it off says the connectors are the same as my mk1 loom so hopefully it will fit otherwise it’s £70 down the drain

So it's a 1992 Cabriolet, late LHD Cabby in other words.

Which fuel injection system does it have?
'K-Jet' or 'Digifant II' normally?

If it was on the off chance imported from California it would have the 'Digifant I' but let's not go down that road at the moment. 😉

Fair enough, so here's an old photo of mine which is a 'Digifant II'.
Take this picture with you and compare it for starters. 😉

Great, now just need to wait until an electrical expert sees this.
But it sounds like you've bitten off more than you can chew.

The forum just like the shops and are very quiet this time of the year.
So you might want to bump your post every few days or so because it is a specialized subject you're asking about! 😉

Best photos I have of the connectors powerwindow wires.png powerwindowcontrols.png The large red with the fuse is someones attempt at main power in from a source of 12V.

I wouldn't trust the taped connections as I would solder and heat shrink at least…

I would replace the fuse and get a totally plastic encased fuse. why? Because the older vane type could get snagged if wired wrong and shorts out something.

The little wires that are out of the plugs are from the window switches and bigger wires are from power or to the motor.

The switches control up or down by using the relay in the controller to reverse polarity to the motors in the door to make them go up or down.

If you cut the brown/white little wire, then you are removing the door open check. Cut the wire about 5 inches back and heat shrink both ends.

This little cut allows the windows to be rolled up or down for about 10-15 minutes with the door open…Keys out and in your pocket I hate it when
I am getting out with the keys out of the ignition and notice that I forgot to roll up the windows. And have to contort or get back in to place the key in and turn it on to roll the window full up.

The large white connector is really tight, and in your pic is halfcocked in or out…They are a pain to get in or out and take a lot of wiggling to remove,
I guess that your little wires out of the brown plugs is because folks pulled the wires before unlatching the connectors and only using the wires to remove.

You will have to remove the pins from the connectors or source new ones from ebay or vw heritage and remove the old from the connector with a paperclip, flat pin… then solder the new and replace.

You can re-use an old connector but you still have to remove the pin from the plug, uncrimp the old wire, solder the new and return.  Do one wire at a time.  If you look at your connectors (little brown ones) they are wired the same only the wires are different colored….(they are the inputs from the switches and output to the doors.)  just the colored wires are different between the two, and they are murphy keyed…. can get wrong connector in wrong place. .

Thanks for everything brian, I have ordered a corrado loom which have the same connectors so I’m going to try them when they come as the old looms looks a bit worse for wear

yes you can use an early corrado or passat loom. main difference is these cars have the switches in the doors, so you would put the driver side 'front door' loom behind the centre console, and leave the rest unplugged. plus the module on these is in the back under the seat or behind drivers side door card and the cabrio its up front under the dash near A pillar

I did the very same on my mk1 cabrio, bit of excess cable to wind up out the way but apart from that it worked fine.

later corrado and passat use different switches for the driver side so your cab switches wont plug in. though you could fit an early door loom on I expect, or just adapt the loom with your old switch plugs
