I am doing a restoration project on my MK1 Cabriolet. From the help of my mechanic he removed the fuel pump underneath car, as we are having it replaced.
Before removing the old pump, I bought a new one. As my car is a 2H Digifant I bought the fuel pump with the parts number: 867 906 091
I bought the pump trusting the chart/catalog beneath - number 40.
When the pump was removed from the car, it looked quite different - might seem it has been replaced before.
Does anyone know what the correct pump is? And if I have bought the correct one, the connectors seems to be different how do I solve that?
Cheers!

I am guessing the previous owner has done his own repairs, installing the incorrect pump.
Any ideas on reconnecting/re-wiring to the new/old pump system?
The reason for changing the pump is a part of diagnosing the fuel system of the car. It seems to be getting to much fuel, and the air-to-fuel ratio seems to be incorrect as well.
Repairs/upgrades that has been done:
- New O2-sensor
- New knock sensor
- Complete new exhaust system
- New idle stabilizer valve
- New fuel filter
- New oil temperature sensor
Upgrades/repairs to be done:
- New air mass meter
- New fuel injectors
- New vacuum pressure sensor
Am I missing anything? Is there any other parts affecting the reason why the car is getting to much fuel? After running for a little while, the exhaust is creating black smoke.

Well I would start with the blue CTS sensor on the water outlet flange.
If it was me I would say get rid of those plastic parts as the 16V CTS sensor is more resilient less prone to go south.
See the following thread:
I still hate plastic parts, but thanks Tolusina. | VW Vortex - Volkswagen Forum

Briano1234 - perhaps you could help me a bit more. As I am now going to replace the fuel pump with a new one, I need a new electrical connector as the old one had O-fittings.
Do you know what connector will fit?
I have tried finding the correct one online but haven't been successfull.
Cheers!

Help with choosing correct fuel pump!
I mentioned earlier in this thread that the car is producing a lot black smoke, indicating something wrong with air/fuel mixture. This is still the case… But talked to my mechanic who said that this seems to stop when he is disconnecting, the lambda probe/O2-sensor. Do you guys think this is the culprit? Any other ideas?
Cheers!
