Porsche alloys on cabby what finish would you choose

Hi all I've got an 89 cabby with diamond cut Porsche alloys that need to be refurbished. Do I stay with diamond cut which looks the nuts but doesn't last long due to the dreaded salt etc or do I get them painted

Diamond cut D90's look so proper on your cabby, it's hard to picture anything else coming close…

…save the paint for wheels that need rash repair.

Help with alloys

I agree keep the diamond cut they look great.

Maybe investigate if you can get them clear powder coated as it lasts much longer.

My local powder coaters does a wheel refurb for about £20 each. - unfortunately they don’t do diamond cutting.

Acid dip, blast, powder then bake.

If you done this with clear coat (if available) they should last about 5-10 years.

You could get the paint shop to clear coat them but would only last a couple of years as it is no where near as durable.

Get some winter wheels and save those for the summer months.

Personally I think that polishing them to a mirror finish and then using a Clear over them is pointless. Like the oldie day and wire wheels on my MG…. Pain in the keister to keep clean… (had them chromed by a friend, and that took a lot of the effort out of keeping them looking smart.

I like my Teardrops, that I stripped and polished over the original finish that was aging, and the clear was flaking off and getting dull.

They are easily brought back to Shine with a Polishing of mag wheel cleaner, and a sponge ball…. A good polishing will last a couple of years, and is easily and cheaply maintained.   Getting them to the mirror image is about 2 hours of sanding per wheel….

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

Thanks for the advice,  it looks like it will have to be diamond cut again

Just use a decent wheel sealant once they are redone
