I don't have any pictures to hand but what do you have left? There should be a plastic plate, rubber mount and a metal L shaped bracket.

I've spoke to someone recently about remaking the metal plates as they always seemed to rust out, if you want one I'll put you in touch with him when they're made up.

My bracket rusted away years ago, mines just shoved up there as the plastic wheel arch liner holds it up.

This picture any use?

Can't help much, but get to know the web site

It may get you ideas of where it is mounted, and or what it might look like.

Hi MK1inbits!

I have actually exact the same problem, also 20 years have passed ;-)

Did you in the meantime found pictures that you could share ?

Do you guys reinstall the mud guard?
Not all lines are covered and protected. This seems to me so small and insufficient?
Hence all the rusty filler neck's out there …

I was thinking of making some sort of rubber that could be stretched over all the lines to protect them from water, rocks and sand …
But there are probably already better ideas out there?

thanks!

They rusty out because the Previous owners never power washed the wheel wells to remove the debris, I couldn't believe the amount of crud I blew out of the back side of the filler tube…. But then again both of mine were Northern Delivered and Southern raised so no big dousing of Salt during the winters.

I fitted a front passenger side arch liner in the rear arch before, fits very well with a little trimming.

Hmm, should be a good solution to!
And as Briano says, a good wash from time to time should prevent a lot of misery too.
As i recall there was indeed a ton of sand, salt and other dirt in there when disassembling the car …

From memory there is a black foam block at the top of the plastic shield. This has a slot in it that the L shaped metal bracket slots into. The gravity valve then fits on to that.

As its all out of sight I simply bent a metal strip to replace the original L bracket that had turned to rust dust
