Golf Rivage fuel filter

Replacement fuel filter smaller?

Hi–probably a dumb question…

My '92 Rivage had a Mann WK853 fuel filter fitted. Having searched online, I purchased a Bosch replacement filter (045 905 021 - which appears to be the correct one, based on several sources).  That said, it's smaller than the Mann one, which means I need to get a new bracket (annoying but not the end of the world).

However, having REALLY tightened the bolts either end on the Bosch one, I'm still getting fuel leakage. Should I be replacing all four washers?  Or, should I just get another Mann one? Weirdly, online says the Mann (WK853) one isn't the right one for my car.

Very confused.

Many thanks,

Matt

Eurocarparts sell the MANN version and looks like it comes with the washers. They usually have a discount code at any given time.

Early cars had the smaller/thinner fuel filter (pre 85 ish) The one you have will work but you will need to use a smaller jubilee clip to hold it in place.

It's worth getting new crush washers when you change the filter, one end is m14 (same size as sump plug washer) and the other end m12

I've brought serval Mann filter from Euro car parts like the one in the link above and they usually on come with 1 washer if you are lucky…

You could just buy the Mann filter in the link and then you don't need to change the jubilee clip.

Most motor factors seem to list the wrong fuel filter for later cars, I've even been given a Mk2 Golf before. If you put your reg into the Euro car parts website it will list the wrong filters (Mk2 golf with the tubes at the ends) they also list the wrong grade of oil so don't always believe what they recommended…

Thanks for the guidance. I went ahead and ordered a new Mann filter from Euro. It turned up with no crush washers, so I'm about to purchase some of them.

Best,
Matt
