Hi all, need help on what size wheels I need for me golf as the ones I already had were touching the suspension 15", next set I got are just catching the brake carrier and think already have cut into the alloys these are 16". Now I want to get some once and for all where I can just put them on and thats it. Want to go for 15", so need to know the tyre size, ET and the 6J wot ever that is. Never understood all this on wheels. Thanks in advance.

www.cabby-info.com has a list of wheel sizes and offsets required….

Written in plain speak.

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?

6j = the rim width in inches, in this case 6"
J = the profile of rim were the tyre sits

Ignore the J it just over complicates things

Most 15 inch wheels will be between 7 and 8 inches wide.

You will want an offset of ET25 minimum to ET42 maximum on 7" rims, go any wider and it becomes a more exact science

Its more likely the tyres will touch the suspension rather than the wheels themselves.

Anything other than standard ride height will need 195/45 tyres

Current rides:

2003 BMW 330d Manual Saloon Msport
1985 GTI cabriolet black edition (42k miles)
1999 Triumph Daytona 955i Post apocalyptic, rat, brat, scrambler, steam punk, cafe racer

It would also be useful to know what brake set up you have, whether you're on coilovers or shocks and springs and if you've lowered it.

Back spacing of the wheel becomes an issue if you have big brake set up and coilovers usually sit with the adjustment ring exactly where the tyre needs to be. Therefore a different tyre and wheel package is required for coilovers vs lowering springs.

Hi, it is on standard suspension and standard brakes. Nothing has been changed as I am aware.
