I bought my golf as a rolling shell and there was no gearbox on it when purchased but the one I've got since is a FF code which I understand is for a diesel but should work fine on my 1.6gti. What I'm curious of is which starter motor will be OK to use as the diesel is 1.5kw with 2point fitment onto this gearbox and the original for the gti is 0.95kw and a 3point fitment which won't fit onto the FF gearbox I have.
Has anyone used a diesel starter on a 1.6 petrol without any issues? Cheers Jason

I'd say you'll have to use a diesel starter if it is the only one that will fit the box. I'd be focusing on the starter and flywheel assuming you are using the Gti flywheel. As long as the teeth mesh properly you should be fine. If the diesel uses a different flywheel to the Gti you will have issues.

Ahh yeh I would have gone and got it but I'm in county Durham the other end typical! Cheers anyway!
Well the motor factors said the two different starters had the same amount of teeth so that's a start just it's an order only item didn't want to be stuck with it if it didn't fit or was too powerful

It won't be too powerful, just more powerful, Diesel engines have twice the compression of petrol so you will be giving it an easy life !
