Fuel pump problem GTi

Lift pump runs, pressure pump doesn't

This query relates to a GTi I'm restoring. Having replaced the in tank lift pump (which was siezed) on my 1986 GTi Cabrio 8 valve, I don't get any fuel from the pressure pump - it doesn't run. When I switch on the ignition the in tank pump runs for a second or two and when I turn the ignition to the start position I can hear the pump relay click but the pressure pump doesn't run. I've checked for voltage at the pressure pump while the ignition is in the start position and there's nothing there at all. The pump itself looks fairly new and it appears to check ok on a resistance meter test. Any suggestions gratefully received.

As far as I recall, the relay gives power to the pump for  one or two seconds when first turning on the ignition, to prime the system.
As soon as you wind over, the relay is waiting for a signal from the coil, check you have a spark at the plugs first. If you do, then check the Low voltage wire to the coil has the wire that goes to the relay connected
