The fuel accumulator on my 1800 GTI is making a strange noise (it sounds like it's got a wasp trapped in it!). Does anyone know if there's anything inside that can be fixed or is it just a case of getting a new one? They seem quite expensive so trying to avoid replacing it.
Any help appreciated.

Is it not the fuel pump making the noise?
Not ever heard of a noisy accumulator?

All that is inside the accumulator is a diaphragm and a very strong spring. I agree with Mark, more likely to be the pump.

Thanks for your responses. The noise is definitely coming from the accumulator, I've listened through a stethoscope! Perhaps the diaphragm's damaged. Looks like I might be in for a replacement.

The way to check if the accumulator has failed is to undo the screw on the back end - if fuel comes out the diaphragm has failed, and the accumulator needs to be replaced.
