Hi guys,
As the title suggests - my front fog lamps on my 83 Campaign are not working. Here are details/checks so far.
1. I have fitted a new switch - as I had one lying around - VW original.
2. Rear fogs work fine.
3. Light in the switch only comes on when rears are on - which is how it has always been.
4. No power getting to the front fogs.
5. All other lights working OK.
Done a fair bit of searching - and given the above - reckon it's an issue with relay OR fuse. I have Haynes manual but that makes no mention of fog lights and can't find any wiring diagrams - do these have a fuse/relay associated with them. If so - number/location?
Cheers!

When you say fog lights, do you mean the lights in the grill? Are you sure they are fogs and not high beam? Are they yellow or clear?

Yes - lights in the grill.
These are fog lights - not spot lights. They are the standard Campaign middle lights that would come on when the you pressed the fog light switch to the 1st position.

Well I don't know too much about front fogs because I haven't got them fitted. There can be a relay in position 7 on the fuse box but this only supplies the power to the switch. On cars with rear fog only the switch gets its feed from M1 on the fuse box. Usually with front fogs the relay is used. Either way your fogs should work though. Have you got a connector by the brake master cylinder with white-yellow and brown wires? Check for voltage there first.

I had similar issue with my spots…… probably a break in cable somewhe6.
I just purchased a plug and play quad light loom which have relays, fuses as part of kit, you just hook it to battery and the headlight terminal. You can tuck the harness away with tie wraps, you can't really see them.
No doubt the lights looks brighter, it is a safer set up and does not cause load on the headlight switch which are known to burn out.

Hello Brinz, the Loom you are referring to, how do you hook it up with the cabin light switch?
thanks

Had an issue on mine, the nearside connector was not secure - but also, the connection at the fuse box was melted. The pin that was melted was also next to the cold start injector loom connection - which i was looking into.
Replacement fusebox, new harness connector and its all ok now.
Follow the harness. Also make sure earths are good.
I did have some info in some manuals somewhere which helped me…. DM if you need any help - might be able to dig up something for you..
Hope that helps…
