Thinking of upgrading the front brakes on Rivarge

Hi I would like to upgrade the front brakes on my rivage, would it just be a matter of changing the servo, and if so what servo would i need?

Why do you want to upgrade?

You can get more feel from the pedal by doing a couple of jobs before having to change over the servo.
Very often over looked is the brake fluid, it's meant to be changed every 2 years, DOT4 is what you need.
Next I would change over the brake hoses, braided ones will last a life time and don't bulge under pressure like rubber hoses. If changing the brake hoses over don't change the fluid till after as you will be wasting your time.

Checking the adjustment on the rear brakes can make a huge difference, the automatic adjuster does not always work very well when the shoes start to wear down. There is a couple of guides on the web about adjusting the rear shoes.

Hi Thanks for your advise where is best to get the braided Break hoses? and is there a particular type?

oh forgot to ask is this an easy job I presume I will have to drain all the break fluid from the car.

I've fitted the Goodridge kit to mine, I guess you still have the drums on the rear and not discs?
You need 4 brake hoses for drums and 6 if you have discs.

Info on hoses, lots of places sell them but this link gives you some info etc.

If doing this your self get some crows foot spanners. (not sure if these are the right sizes as it was years ago when I changed mine)

Stop the risk of rounding off the brake line nuts.

As with all jobs on a Mk1 rust can be your biggest problem, so start soaking things in Plusgas.
Yes you need to drain some of the brake fluid.
Front's straight forward as easy to gain access.
rears can be more troublesome as the hoses run over the rear beam. It is possible to change the hoses with the rear beam on the car but access it tight, the crows foot spanners on an extension bar help a lot.
I changed both my cars hoses with the beam on the car so I know it is possible it's just a bit fiddly.

Yes have drums on rear, thanks for the Information will now look to get everything and upgrade one weekend.
I will update once complete.
