Fitting hood side cables

Car been on the road for over a month or so now and enjoying the great weather here in Ireland - driving to and from work with hood down has been great fun.
So all the engine, brakes suspension have been done to get her on the road so now moving onto the hood.
It wasn't fitted too well by prior owner so after following both Briano and Ross' great how to's have the rear cable nice and neat but bit puzzled on fitting side cables.
Using these how tos:

No side cable was fitted to my car bar short length left at rear so can see where that attaches and appears no spring. The end passes through hole and attaches to a metal tab.
Now the front end, I can't see where to attach the cable. Do I need to remove the window seal or is it just hidden away? I can't seem to match my car with the photos on the how tos. So what am I looking for, a small stud? Photo below shows my hood - there is a white plastic grommet which looks like might be for the cable but no attachment to see.
Also, I can't see any slots in the actual hood to pass the cable through. Can another provide approx distances from front of hood? Guessing need to cut slots?
Is this normal? Would have thought slots would be pre-cut.
Then if no spring at rear, do I need the brass chain that Briano recommends? My car is 1985 model so not sure if that is older type or not.
Have bought cables, ferrules and plastic tubing so can make length to suit.
Also if buying brass chain anyone uk/ireland based any suggested online suppliers?
Cheers
John

Older style frames used the headliner bar at the front and that is where the spring is.
Newer lower sitting frames have a teat on the front frame
The side cable is at the edge of the handle on the outside. For the newer style the Cable spring is at the rear frame.

So for me to see the attachment on front frame do I need to peel back the front corner of the hood? I'm thinking the spring might be missing as poking up to where I think it might be I can't feel anything.
Is the spring available to order in uk?

Again Chortle is your man in the U.K.
He fits new roofs, he repairs them when viable and sometimes has spare parts that one can purchase.

I found the front springs to attach the cables
Obvious if replaced a hood before, but it is hidden away,
Need to open hood, remove seal along hood latch handles (one that seals to top of door glass), remove screws to take off seal holder, remove screw inserts , remove small bracket on front edge (2 screws) then peel back outer hood fabric.
Close hood to near closed with front frame pointing up and secure, peel back outer fabric and hidden away is the spring - see photo
So will make up cables tomorrow to length and hopefully jobs a good'un
