exhaust query

looking to replace the exhaust on my 91 clipper and ive just found a second hand sporty system.
  is the standard exhaust diameter 2  1/4"??

I've just pulled the exhaust from my  83 1.6 and it measures 40mm (1.575 inches, 1 9/16)  at the tailpipe end. Is yours an 1800?

I've a 1.8 1990 mk1 golf cabriolet and my standard pipe was 2.5 inches before I swapped it to 73mm

i measured the pipe lastnight and found it to be 2 1/2"
 unfortunately i missed out on the exhuast
