Engine wiring route.

I'm putting my GTi back together after repairing the wiring, which was a bit tired after 34 years.

I'm not happy with the route that the wiring took before I took the loom out.

Can anyone tell me the route the part of the loom takes that goes over the box and goes to the temp sensor etc on the front of the block.

Does it go under or over the gear selector for example.

Should there be any clips holding it in place, or is it just cable ties to heater hoses etc?
