Engine number location

Hi All

i have had trouble locating the engine number on my golf mk1 gti.
could anyone help ?
i did find a number just below the head on the right
it seems to be quite worn though.

any ideas?

It is just underneath spark plug 3 on the engine block.
A very light rub with some wet/dry or sand paper may bring up the number.
If it's the original engine or someone has updated your log book it will also be on there.
