Electronic ignition

Post

Im about to get myself Accuspark electronic ignition kit, and was thinking i could get new coil also while im on it.
I see there is standard and ballast systems, and i think iv got ballast ? (-83 Golf 1.6).

As far as i understand standard is better for electronic ignition ? Becouse of less of heat ? I cant see any resistor or anything so is there a way I could change my coil into standard one, and how do i do that? Or should i just stick to my original coil and get new spare ballast coil (just becouse its cheap i think its good to get spare for same shipping)

Thanks !

I've fitted the Accuspark kit to my 1978 Mk1 Scirocco and I can recommend the kit, I've been happy with the results in a smoother tick over and the car is happier to rev.
It's been on the car a few years now and still working fine.
I kept the standard original coil, rubjonny has explained how you stop the resistor wire.

Thread about how I fitted my kit as I was having trouble finding a live feed for the kit.
