Getting ready for a tour in France
We are taking our 1986 Cabriolet for a tour around the North West of France and need to kit ourselves out with all the odds and ends that European laws require. one of these things is a full set of spare light bulbs. Has anyone (recently) done this? Is there an off-the-shelf kit I can get or do I need to gather together one of each? It would be nice if there is a kit / case that I can just leave in the dash and hopefully it would offer some protection to the lamps.

Google may be your friend on this one - or the RAC web site.
I think you have to have a hi-vis vest, two breath test kits too!

Yeah, Google is showing me all sorts of options and we already have the AA/RAC pack that has the vest, triangle, breath-test kit etc but no lights. Was hoping to get a quick link from someone who has been there and done it!

I'm sure someone has, but a lot of people will be recovering from the AGM so worth checking in again tomorrow

France demands a Breath-Test kit but no other Country to my knowledge.
As for almost all the rest of the EU, you'll need the following.
Spare set of bulbs front and rear.
Orange or green emergency vest.
Warning triangle.
A first Aid kit but be careful, there it must on be to old or past its expiry date if it has one.
That's about it other than if you've got your car modded to death and the ride height is extremely low.
Germany, Austria and Switzerland Police forces can get a bit nasty about things like that!

French cops will fine you if you have speed cameras activated on your satnav or phone (unsure how they can check the phone). Carry you mot, insurance and v5 in the car too.
On the spot fines for speeding and noisy exhaust.

I think you may need some spare fuses too. These are all worthwhile things to have in your car anyway.

I do find it strange that in France you need to carry spare bulbs as the couple of french cars I've worked on you have to remove the grill and headlight to remove the bulb as there is not enough room to get your hand in behind the headlight when fitted!
If you don't have a tool kit you will never be able to change to bulb at the side of the road.
Glad the Mk1 golf is straight forward to change the bulb.
