So the more I read about pumps and lift pumps the more confused I become as I try to find a quick fix before heading of to Alive and Vdubbin early tomorrow yes I know I’ve left it late but it’s my girlfriends birthday tomorrow, I’ve been busy at work and the dog ate my homework. If someone brighter than myself can shine a light on things I’ll orders parts and collect in the morning.
Thanks chaps

Back seat out, under a metal round cover held in with three screws. Undo and remove. Don't forget the rubber seal that goes under the flange.
Pull on the fuel lines (out and return) to get as much slack as possible.
Turn the plastic cap to the sender unit / lift pump approx 20 degrees and lift out. BE CAREFUL as it's old brittle plastic and it like to break!
Lift out sender and pump. There's another rubber ring sealing the sender to the tank, try not to let it fall in the tank or you'll need to go fishing You may need to disconnect the fuel lines to get it out. If so be careful as they'll be fuel in the lines and it can end up inside the car and soak the carpets if you're not careful.
Good luck!

Does my 92 cabby gti have 2 fuel pumps ??
Have found the lift pump seems to be intermittent when powered up with a probe and like many old cabbys the tank is full of crud and rusty matter so going fishing with a strong flexi magnet.
Not very scientific but not doing to bad for a quick fix
Thanks for chipping in

You have to Disconnect the Battery.
Do in a well vented area.
Here is how I do it, and I have the String trick.

If you would of asked I also know of a Single pump conversion, that costs no more than 80 USD and you rid your self of 2 pumps, the Swirll pot and old rubber hoses.

I have the rare earth magnets out of the old Full Height disk drives, and they can lift about 50 lbs.

I was testing the lift pump with my probe after removing it and found it to be intermittent so I soldered in a new positive wire and replaced the earth.
Did away with the plastic block and crimped on 2 new female terminals, cleaned the male terminals on the pump with a sharp flat screwdriver, put it back together powered it up with the probe and bingo ! All good yey !!
Spent the day at Alive and Vdubbin

I had one hole, and one fall apart as I was changing the in-tank pump.

Yeah good call. It was a bit of a pain to get back in but I only had 9.5mm fuel line so couldn’t replace it but I will ask if I can pinch some from work on MondayBriano1234 said
I would of done away with the interconnect vibration dampner, and just used new e-rated fuel hose.

Euro Car Parts dude I also needed one the next day so had to pay the mk1 tax but still comes out at £110 for a Bosch pump.

You have to do click and collect when it comes to delivery after you’ve applied the code then you pay for it at the store but you must order it online to apply the discount code or you don’t get that price. Stupid but true lolgolf_cab_gti said
