Do I paint my arch trims

Post

So it's finally going for paint and my arch trims; a pillar trims and duck bill are all faded. Do I get the painters to put some satin black on them or save up for new ones ready for next summer. Will the paint last and can I keep it looking good with any products if they do get painted in satin?  Any experience or knowledge welcome.

Thanks

Craig

I've painted plastics with varying degrees of success.

I seem to have the best results with Simonez Tough Black

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2-x-Simoniz-Large-Tough-Satin-Black-Aerosol-Car-Auto-Spray-Paint-500ml-SIMVHT51D-/370978206919?hash=item56600634c7:g:fesAAOSwt6ZWWJDQ

I've done grills and splitters in it. Must admit to never having done the arch covers in it though.

Nice and simple, just spray it on. Don't polish it or clear coat it just leave it as it is. It is a different 'shade' to the original plastics though so I'd suggest doing all the plastics in it.

Just keep it clean with your usual car wash and avoid polish on it.

Clives plastics were all done in it so have a look through the build thread in my sig.

That's the $1,000,000 question!

First of all let's see what you see with some good sharp photos and then we can take it from there.

Actually cleaning them with SOS pads (steel wool with soap) starting off coarse 0 or 00 then going up to 0000 really can make a difference in the plastic, it is harder than Paint, but gives a more flat sheen.  At the end with 0000 and a little light cutting oil ie" 10wt, they actually get a shiney luster…. similar to the "B" pillar covers.  The Fact that they are a textured material, makes Steel wool exceptional for the crevices.

Before I would paint I would clean them with steel wool, (SOS pads) and rinse let dry, then hit them with Alcohol (Painters type) and a couple of rags…

I have had exceptional luck with Krylon's Fusion Satin Black, made for plastics… There is also "Plastic-Dip"

My "B" pillars went from

to

Plenty of elbow grease 800-1000-2000-3000 wet/dry and water, followed by a plastic polish….

What do Divorces, Great Coffee, and Car Electrics all have in common?

They all start with GOOD Grounds.

Where are my DIY Links?
